COLDSTREAM GUARDS REUNION

FALLINGBOSTEL 2010

Friday 14th -Saturday 15th May

START THE BALL ROLLING

Ladies, Gents fellow Coldstreamer’s, With fine company and a couple of excellent German beers having just visited Wavell Barracks in Berlin where the 1st Bn were stationed in the 70’s, the conversation came round to the next suggested location for a Coldstream Guards get together / reunion abroad.

Tony Dunn, Paul Knox and myself along with many others think that Fallingbostel in May 2010 would be a fitting place as any for a get together.

It will be the 30th Aniversary of the hand over of Wessex Barracks and the armoured caravans down the garages from the 1st to 2nd Battalion, with over 100 Coldstreamer’s remaining in Fally and England respectively. During the 6 years many friendships where formed , lives lost and dependants born good and bad times and uniforms worn.

If you think you may attend or know someone else who may be intrested in any or all of the following please add your thoughts / interest and further ideas.

Visit Fally Military Museum!

A parade or march through the town! Blazer, Brigade Tie & Gray Trousers,

Visit the barracks!

A casual evening Friday & a sit down Dinner on the Saturday Evening.

Then please add your comments to the link, so we can get some idea of how much interest there is out there. Come rain or shine Tony, Paul and Don will be there. If early interest is anything to go by all ex Coldstreamer’s contacted wish to attend.

How many times did you hear someone say there is nothing to do in and around Fallingbostel! I have said it myself many a time

over the years. One of the 1st things I did after visiting the Bank Manager Herr Schultz at the Sparkasse in Fally was buy myself a car to get out of the place. Did you know that the Sparkasse bank was originally founded in Fally. Well you do now.

I only lived there for 6 years. Howmany ex Coldstreamers still live there or not too far away.

Whatever happened to Corina Schnabel of BFBS radio and TV! I hear you all asking yourselves.

I think thats a gem of an idea.   Always wanted to revisit Fally, but never got round to it.   Can't make this years re-union in Blackpool due to the son getting himself married, but a visit to the old stomping ground would more than make up for it!

cheers to all ex 2nd Battalion muckers

New ideas come from a few pints, I am up for it, Fally was my first posting after passing out and even though I was only there for about 10 months fond memories were to have had.  My first Germay girl, yes good old 4 toes and then a trip to the clinic and how many of you lot had her as well.  But if this comes off should be a good weekend.

Great idea.

Was in Fally between Nov 79 till Dec 80.  Was going to arrange a weekend with my son to tour Germany this year, however, I may as well delay it to save some beer tokens.

I'm in

Hi Tony Fallowfield

Don't know if you remember me was in MT plt. Do you know what happened to Fred Gillard never heard about him since Fally.

Sounds like a good idea a trip to Fally, count me in at the moment (work commitments).

Hi everyone, (Alf, Reg, Drew and anyone else who remembers me)

This is the first time I've posted on this message board even though I check on it now and then to see what's happening.  Now that 'Fally' has popped up I thought I would contribute as I remember happy times there as a young Guardsman in 1 company, 2CG.  I also met my wife Karen in Hanover in 1983 during my time there.

I think a trip back is a brilliant idea and would love to be able to return there.

Because there are so many people who have initially shown a great deal of interest in returning to Fally in 2010 and because  we all not only live through out the UK but all over the world too, could I suggest we all make our own way there either individually or in groups.  That way arrangements and admin will be kept to a minimum. As with accommodation too, there are plenty of web sites on the net for people to book their own. Could I ask if anyone knows someone who may not have access to the internet to pass the information on at Branch meetings, Black Weekend, Civic week  and any other Coldstream get together, or through the grape vine  & jungle drums. Which reminds me!! We have enough members of the Guards Division Corps of Drums who are interested in attending that we will be putting on some kind of performance there. YOU KNOW THE RULES we only play YELLOW BIRD IF GEOFF LEVY turns up.

Question for the leaders of this expedition;

Is this re-union just for blokes or are women vets included?  The wife is interested in going.

Sorry to hear about Ron Helstrip!

Cheers

Hi Robbo,

Found this site las Friday night, saw the message from Rob & gave him a call, had a good old chin wag as you do, Can you remember taking me home to Cleckheaton from Windsor one Sat afternoon, I think you had a Honda 400 at the time, got piss wet through & frozen to the bone ( but thanks anyway ). Do you have John Whitleys contact details as I would like to contact him amongst others like Jimmy Little, Allan Willlis, Nobby Shearsmith, John (Boris) Townsend (who, on demob ended up staying at our house for weeks as his mum & dad had moved & forgotten to tell him) Dave Sullivan, Vic Croucher, Blackledge, Paul Parker, Allan Pink & anyone who I have forgotten that maybe use this site.
