Gents,
On 22nd October this year the Yorkshire evening post here in Leeds had in its obituary column Paul Simpson aged 52 who passed away unexpectedly. His funeral was held on Monday 2nd November 2009 at 2.30pm at Harehills Cemetery, Leeds.
The obituary states that Paul worked for Royal Mail at Stourton Leeds for 23 years, now when i left the army in 1993 i got a job with Yorkshire Rider as a driver and use to pick up Paul going to work (Royal Mail) in the mornings etc.
Paul was in number 3 coy 1st Bn at the time i joined the battalion and went to 9 Plt 3 Coy (Windsor).
I am trying to confirm that this is indeed Paul if it then i thought those of you who remember him would appreciate knowing this news.

Hi Trigger, I really hope it's not the Paul Simpson I know from Caterham. I was at one time good pals with him. I knew he married a girl from down south, but lost contact once I left. Please let me know if you hear anything else.
This is really sad, sad news.

Hi Nige and Trigger,

Sorry to hear this sad news, Paul was from the Harehills area of Leeds and the age bracket sounds right, when i was a new draft in Fally in 77 i shared a room with Paul, not the easiest task for a new draft i can tell you, but a real eye opener, and he would always protect his own.

I cant remember the name of the girl he married, but your right she was a southern girl, and Pete Young and myself where both at the wedding, and Paul then seemed to have a settled life.

Paul was a first class soldier and will always be remembered by all the lads of the 1st Battalion, if this is true, farewell Paul, a privilidge to know you.

RIP BROTHER - COLDSTREAM HEAVEN AWAITS

Very sad news & shocked to hear this, because Paul turned up one evening when we were having a get together at Gandy's pub (God bless him) 2006 or 07 I think it was & he looked so well slim & after not seeing him for so many years, I couldn't get over how I thought he had hardly aged. It was a pleasure knowing & serving with Paul back in 3 coy in Windsor & in Fally, he was a true character, always laughing & joking about, & good company to be in. RIP my friend I will never forget you.

I thought I would put this message together from all the boys who knew Paul.God where do you start Paul Simpson was a great mate to me and to those likely lads in the early seventies, youngy, george m, ged bateman, Paul Wareham, and many many many others. I heard from Pauls Mum about 25yrs ago when I rang him out of the blue, she told me he was struggling with life a little then, he had not been out long. We lost touch as you do. I next met him at Gandys he stayed at my home a couple of days,we had loads of giggles talking of the past and its characters I knew here was a mate who was not alive in the sense of, here was a good mate who appeared to be struggling along not the lively likely lad we all knew and loved. what on earth went wrong, he missed the comradeship of the Gang in the Army days.He had a good responsible job, a smashing family. we laughed and joked about all the mischief we got up to and god we had a giggle, too many escapades to put on here, but some good crack, a lad who stood beside you when you needed him, Iam not doing that good with the words here struggling a bit, We all have the memorys of you Paul, sleep well Coldstreamer you will be in my thoughts for a long time, thanks for the giggles and escapades we shared, great fun great memories. Thanks. Sorry we could not say farewell to you the way the old boys from the Regiment would have liked but you are now in that Naafi upstairs with some great lads. Ta-ra Son sleep well. Love Norman x

My thoughts are with his family and friends, that means all of us on this website.  I remember Paul as a draft in Fally in 79 My first session was with Brad Mills, Erko, Gandy (RIP) and Paul Simpson (RIP) in Harry's Bar,

52, is that it?  in the words of "Usher" - Gone too soon. 4

Fall in Paul Simpson, and I'll see you when I get there.

Truly a Very Sad Day at Sad Rock and a even Blacker Day at Black Gulch, I had the pleasure of serving with Simmo, he was very well liked by all who he came into contact with , I was very lucky to have had the pleasure in seeing him for one last time when he turned out at Gandy’s. I remember the occasion well as it was also my first turn out having had no contact with Old Colleagues for 13 Year having got out in Sept 92. Simmo you will be Sadly missed Laddo.

My thought’s go out to his Wife and Family at this very Sad Time.

You May be gone, Rest assured though, You Will Never be Forgotten by those who Knew you.

Hi all,

I am Paul's daughter, and I was overwhelmed when I came on to see all of your messages. This is very sad news and I would just like to apologise that we weren't able to contact you all sooner. It was such a shock when it happened, and we struggled to find contact for people, my dad was a very private man. He was buried last monday and there were so many people there, over a hundred that couldn't even fit inside the church. It's quite clear that he was a very liked man.

It's lovely to see all the great memories of my dad you have and I know he was very fond of you all. He spoke of you regular and I know he had such a great time when he met up with some of you a few years ago.

My dad had been living in Leeds for over 25 years, he'd worked for Royal Mail for over 23 years. He lived with my mum and I and he was the most fantastic father and partner.

It is such sad news but so great to see that my dad's memory lives on!
